Iran Film Week held in Ecuador

Iran's Film Week was held in Quito, capital of Ecuador, in February, March 2018.

Iran's Film Week has been held in Quito, capital of Ecuador, in February, March 2018.

The event took place by coordination and cooperation of Iran's embassy in Ecuador and Quito's Culture House from February 28 to March 4.

The film week honored the late-great Iranian director Abbas Kiarostami by screening a number of his movies.

‘Taste of Cherry’, ‘Where Is the Friend's Home?’, ‘Life, and Nothing More’, and ‘Wind Will Take Us’ were among the movies.

Referring to the statement “Cinema begins with D.W. Griffith and ends with Abbas Kiarostami” by the French director Jean-Luc Godard, the Head of an Ecuadorian cinema school paid tribute to the Iranian filmmaker.

The Iranian ambassador to Ecuador Saadat Aqajani also addressed the opening ceremony of the event, saying “Iranian cinema has observed plenty of accomplishments in the international scene and it is due to spiritual and humane perspective to arts.”

Media in the country covered the event through news, interviews and critics.

Kiarostami has won many awards including the Palme d'Or he snatched at the Cannes Festival in 1997 for his film ‘Taste of Cherry’.

The late writer-director has been widely hailed as a pioneer of the Iranian New Wave.

He is mostly known as a screenwriter, film editor, art director and producer as well as a poet, photographer, painter, illustrator, and graphic designer.

The veteran Iranian filmmaker who passed away on July 4, 2016, following a heart attack at the age of 76, was honored at several film events around the world.
